CODEBRITE - ‘BYTE-SIZE’ CODE WORKSHOPS

In December 2014 the team at Venture Centre took on a community event, promoted as a global movement called 'Hour of Code'.
The website went up a week before the event. Only seven days later 67 people walked through the doors of Venture Centre's communications and technology space, Basestation, ready to learn to code.

Little people as young as 6 and grown ups up to the age of 75 arrived to get hands-on help from communications and technology professionals who work and play at Basestation.

Based on the unprecedented success of this event the team at Venture Centre have launched Codebrite, based on the same premise – to give people their first go at code.

Ana Vieira, mother of twin boys, said "our boys loved Hour of Code and since then, they have been asking when they could do some more with others. Codebrite is going to keep them going!"

Designed primarily for those with no or little previous experience Codebrite encourages creative, fun, collective learning in a two hour hands-on workshop.

Initiated and sponsored by Project Tauranga, Codebrite is again facilitated by the local tech community, working together on a common goal: to ensure local talent live work and play with technology  – with confidence.

No previous experience with code or programming is necessary. You are encouraged to sign up for one session to get a taste and explore or register for up to 3 sessions if you or your child (or both) want to dig deeper into something you have started.

Ellyn Brunskill who chose to learn alongside her daughter, aged 7 said "My daughter won't just play on her tablet anymore, she wants to make her own game. She now can learn the basics with a Codebrite workshop".

The sessions are 2 hours long with self paced, aged appropriate activities, facilitated by professionals.

You will walk away with new knowledge, resources and tools to continue learning and some new friends like Isobel M. (12yo) who said "That was so cool to try out coding with people around you! I can ask the helpers questions and I can give my brain a challenge too."

(If your child is not 8 yet contact info@venturecentre.nz to discuss –  we know every child is different and can make arrangements for younger learners)
